Therapy can help you solve specific problems, recover from trauma, cope with long-standing difficulties, change disordered eating patterns, and help further your personal growth and development.
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is one-to-one therapy which generally occurs in my office but might also occur over the phone. The first session is called an intake session. During this session you get a chance to tell me what you are looking for in therapy and what you hope to accomplish, and I will ask you some questions about yourself and your background. Individual therapy might be focused on such things as low self-esteem, feelings of depression and sadness, feelings of fearfulness and anxiousness, trauma and recovery, or coping with the loss of a relationship breakup or the death of someone close to you.
Marriage and Couples Therapy
In couples therapy you come in with your spouse or partner and together we work to resolve problems in your relationship and to increase relationship satisfaction. Some examples of the focus for couples therapy include communication problems, trust and fidelity issues, lifestyle and compatibility differences, and skill-building for long-term relationship success. Couples therapy begins with a joint intake session followed by initial individual intake sessions.
Divorce Therapy
Divorce therapy is a form of couples therapy for couples who are considering or are in the midst of divorce. Divorce therapy might be focused on making the decision to divorce or reconcile, or on navigating a divorce while minimizing the impact to each partner and to children who might be affected by the process of divorce. Divorce is never easy, and couples can often benefit from the guidance and support of therapy during this difficult time.
Group Therapy
In group therapy, 6-8 individuals or 3-4 couples meet weekly for 10 weeks or more to discuss problems, obtain support, connect with others, and learn skills for things like coping, mindfulness, communication, and relaxation. Groups generally have a common theme, such as Personal Empowerment, Relationship Building, and For Women Only.
Phone Counseling
Some individual therapy sessions may be conducted over the phone so it is not necessary for you to come into the office. Phone sessions are available to clients who have been seen in the office for an initial intake session and at least three in-office sessions.
Note: phone conversations may not be confidential forms of communication.
